SILVER SPRING, MD — Lucy Mettler, a 17-year-old author from Charleston, South Carolina, visited Montgomery Knolls Elementary School on Wednesday.

Mettler signed copies of her soon-to-be-released book, “Treasures of the Tide,” which tells the story of a boy whose passion for collecting sea shells with his father helps him to overcome grief after his father dies.

Mettler visited two classes at Montgomery Knolls, read from her book and fielded questions from students.

Mettler’s visit is part of the Linkages to Learning program, in which Montgomery County Public Schools and the county’s Department of Health and Human Services partner with local public and private nonprofits to help students and their families access county services and resources.
